  9.           pnmdepth - change the maxval in a portable anymap

  12.           pnmdepth newmaxval [pnmfile]

  14.      DESCRIPTION
  15.           Reads a portable anymap as input.  Scales all the pixel
  16.           values, and writes out the image with the new maxval.
  17.           Scaling the colors down to a smaller maxval will result in
  18.           some loss of information.
  19.  
  20.           Be careful of off-by-one errors when choosing the new
  21.           maxval.  For instance, if you want the color values to be
  22.           five bits wide, use a maxval of 31, not 32.
